What’s Sex Got to do with… Forgetting Sarah Marshall

I am not sure if any of you guys have seen the movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall but it came out in 2008. It is about a “devastated Peter [Jason Siegel] takes a Hawaii vacation in order to deal with recent break-up with his TV star girlfriend, Sarah [Kristen Bell]. Little does he know Sarah’s traveling to the same resort as her ex … and she’s bringing along her new boyfriend” (imdb.com). The movie trailer is above.

Throughout this movie you see many hookup and sex scenes. I couldn’t find a clip from this part of the movie but after Peter got his heart broken by Sarah he went through a stage of one night stands. I feel like this could be very common because I hear people who just ended a relationship say, “the easiest way to get over someone is to get under someone else”. I feel this quote really went with what Peter was going through. In the book Hooking Up, Bogle discusses how after college, most individuals stop hooking up with people. She believes that they return to dating. She claims that once people graduate from college most realize that hooking up is no longer the thing for them to do. I really want to disagree with this statement and I believe this clip throughout the movie shows that.

I mean in the movie you eventually get to were Jason meets Rachel [Mila Kunis] while in Hawaii but still when this happens they start as hookup partners first then end up dating. So this clip once goes against Bogle’s statement. I feel like it goes with the college statement on how relationships start by first hooking up and then dating.

Clearly this is just a movie and not really life but sometimes shows and movies are depictions of how our society is and what is going on in our country.
